Elementary Principal's Citizenship Awards on May 19 at North High

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 18, 2016) – The 29th annual Elementary Principal’s Citizenship Award Program will be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 7 p.m. at North Hagerstown High School. More than 70 honored students are selected by the principal of each elementary or by a committee appointed by the principal. Each school will have 5th grade students who will be recognized for outstanding citizenship with a certificate and plaque. Donna Brightman, president of the Washington County Board of Education, and Dr. Clayton Wilcox, superintendent of schools, will be featured speakers.

Inaugural WCPS 5K Walk/Run at CES on May 21

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 18, 2016) – Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) will present the WCPS 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 9 a.m. at the Center for Education Services, 10435 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown. WCPS employees, family members and friends are all welcome to participate. Participating health sponsor, HEAL of Washington County, will announce the winner of the Healthy Schools Challenge at the start of the inaugural event. Registration is $15 and includes an event t-shirt and finisher’s medal.

BOE to Review Facilities Master Plan

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 16, 2016) – The Washington County Board of Education (BOE) is expected to review the latest Educational Facilities Master Plan (EFMP) at a public work session on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the Center for Education Services, 10435 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown. The plan is updated annually and reflects the conditions and status of facilities, enrollment projections and an analysis of future facility needs.

2016 Celebration of Excellence on May 11 at North High

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 11, 2016) – The 2016 Celebration of Excellence, presented annually by Washington County Public Schools to honor students for their outstanding academic achievement, will be held on Wednesday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. at North Hagerstown High School. A dessert reception for students and their guests will precede the program at 6:30 p.m.  A total of 292 students have achieved a 3.7 or higher grade point average (GPA) through the halfway mark of their senior year and 160 have earned a 4.0 GPA or higher. WCPS Students to Be Honored for Excellence in Student Service Learning

HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 27, 2016) – Senior Honor Night for students of Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) who have earned twice the required number of student service learning hours or more for graduation will be held at North Hagerstown High School on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 7 p.m. Students must complete 75 hours of service-learning to graduate and Samantha Juedemann of Boonsboro High School earned the highest number of hours in the senior class: 1,149 and fellow Boonsboro senior Grace Li totaled 1,008. Two other students each totaled more than 900 hours.

HAGERSTOWN, MD (April 5, 2016) – The Washington County Board of Education (BOE) today approved the first reading of changes to two policies and is now seeking public comments on the proposed changes. The BOE’s Policy Committee is inviting comments on Policy DIFA, entitled “Fraud Reporting and Follow-Up” and Policy KD, “Opportunity for Public Comment at Board Business Meetings, Town Meetings, and Public Hearings and the Procedures Governing Such Proceedings.”  The policies are posted at BoardDocs:
