College Fair on October 12

Hagerstown, MD (October 11, 2016) - This year's Washington County College Fair will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Hagerstown Community College's Athletic, Recreation and Community Center (ARCC). The event is presented by Washington County Public Schools and Hagerstown Community College, and provides an opportunity for students and families to discuss college and career opportunities with over 100 college representatives. In addition, students will be able to meet individually with WCPS counselors for college coaching.

40th Annual Showcase of Marching Bands on October 4 at South High

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 29, 2016) – Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) presents the 40th  Annual Showcase of Marching Bands on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at 7 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School. The North Hagerstown High School “Hub” Band will serve as the host band and will be joined by the marching bands from Boonsboro, Clear Spring, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown and Williamsport high schools. Each band will present an individual performance, followed by a selection performed by a mass band under the baton of North High band director Jessica Manor.

Second Year of PARCC Results Released; WCPS Shows Across the Board Gains

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 27, 2016) – The results from the second year of the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Career (PARCC) tests have been released. The Maryland State Department of Education released numbers for Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) and the other school systems across Maryland, compiling results of assessments in the fall of 2015 and spring of 2016. The results reflect testing for elementary, middle and high school students.

North High Academic Quiz Team Dominates It's Academic

Hagerstown, MD (September 20, 2016) - The North Hagerstown High School Academic Quiz Team was victorious on the It's Academic quiz show this past weekend against teams from Perry Hall High School and Western High School. North High's David O'Donoghue, Camille Levine and Michael Hershey earned a final score of 535 points, to Perry Hall's 370 and Western's 280. It was the first time North High had been on the long-running show. The episode will air on WJZ TV October 22 at 10 a.m. North High will return to Baltimore for a playoff match on January 28, 2017.

First Read Approved; BOE Seeking Additional Comment on Fundraising Policy

Hagerstown, MD (September 7, 2016) - Based on the work of the Board of Education’s (BOE) Policy Review and Development Committee, the BOE approved a first read of Policy KB, entitled “School Activities, Programs and/or Fundraisers Sponsored by School-Based Organizations, Parent Organizations and Booster Clubs.” during its September 6, 2016 business meeting. Traffic Light Work Not Finished at Smithsburg School Complex

Hagerstown, MD (August 15, 2016) - Work on the traffic light at the entrance to the Smithsburg schools will not be finished by the first day of school, so parents of Smithsburg students are being encouraged to have their children walk to school, ride their assigned school bus, or in the case of parents of middle and high school students who still intend to drive their children to school, to drop them off at the athletic fields or tennis courts so they can walk from there to school.
