Boonsboro High's Gabe Juedemann Named National Merit Semifinalist

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 18, 2018) – Gabe Juedemann, a senior at Boonsboro High School, was named today as a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist. Gabe is one of 16,000 students nationwide who scored in the top percentile on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Students will compete for 7,500 scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered in the spring. Scholarship winners will be selected from a group of finalists, who will be announced in February.

Verizon's "Higher Level Outage" in Maryland and Pennsylvania Impacting WCPS Phone System

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 12, 2018) - Verizon Network Management and Control-Transport is currently addressing what it is calling a “higher level outage” that is affecting phone systems in Maryland and Pennsylvania, including Washington County Public Schools (WCPS). Incoming calls are not being received and staff cannot make outgoing calls. WCPS staff is using alternate methods of communication, such as cell phones, email and mobile applications to communicate with parents and community members when necessary.

BOE Seeking Public Comment on Proposed Policy JLIG (Student Sunscreen Use)

Hagerstown, MD (September 6, 2018) - The Washington County Board of Education (BOE), at its September 4, 2018 business meeting, approved the first reading of proposed Policy JLIG, entitled "Student Sunscreen Use."

WCPS State Assessment Scores Rise in Mathematics and English Language Arts

Hagerstown, MD (August 28, 2018)  - The 2018 results from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) tests show improved performance from students in Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) in both Mathematics and English Language Arts. Student performance in grade levels 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 demonstrated growth in Mathematics and English Language Arts. On the high school level assessments, Algebra I scores increased from 2017 data while English 10 scores decreased slightly.

School Immunization Requirements for 2018-2019

Hagerstown, MD (July 26, 2018) - The offices of the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools and Maryland Department of Health have issued reminders regarding school immunizations for the 2018-2019 school year. For students in kindergarten through fourth grade, two doses of Varicella vaccine are required prior to admittance to school. All students in seventh through eleventh grade are required to receive a single dose each of Tdap vaccine and Meningococcal (MCV4) before they can begin school.

2018 Summer Food Service Program; Meal Machine Schedule Released

HAGERSTOWN, MD (June 6, 2018) – The summer meal program schedule and sites, along with the Meal Machine schedule, have been released by the Food and Nutrition Services office of Washington County Public Schools (WCPS). WCPS is operating six vehicles in the Meal Machine program this spring and summer, providing free meals for anyone 18 years of age and younger Monday through Friday from June 19 through August 24. ParentVUE and StudentVUE Available

Hagerstown, MD (May 23, 2018)Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is pleased to announce that students and parents/guardians now have access to the ParentVUE and StudentVUE applications. Teachers and school support staff have been entering grades and information over the last week, and significant progress has been made. It is anticipated that all updates will be completed by May 31.
