Hagerstown, MD (February 9, 2018) - The Washington County Board of Education (BOE), at its February 6, 2018 business meeting, approved the first reading of proposed changes to the following:
FAFSA and Financial Aid Workshops Scheduled in February
HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 8, 2018) – A series of free workshops will be offered at schools and the Center for Education Services (CES) this month so 12th grade students and graduating 11th grade students can complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and gain information about available financial aid. Students and parents are welcome at any of the following workshops:
Millionaire's Club at Williamsport High School
HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 6, 2018) – A number of Williamsport High School students are now members of the new Millionaire’s Club. The program offers information and experiences to improve financial literacy and prepare the students for financial independence. Advisor Nicole Ciccarelli has incorporated the program into the Academy of Finance at Williamsport High. The club combines skills development with educational competitions like the national Stock Market Game. In addition, members participate in an annual entrepreneurial project.
Special Permission Applications Being Accepted through May 1 for 2018-2019
HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 1, 2018) – Special Permission applications for the 2018-2019 school year will be accepted by Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) through May 1, 2018.
Kindergarten Readiness Assessment Data Released
Hagerstown, MD (January 30, 2018) - The Maryland State Department of Education has released the fall 2017 Kindergarten Readiness Assessment data, which ranks Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) 23 out of 24 Maryland school systems.
2018 Kindergarten Registration Dates Scheduled; Pre-K Applications Available in March
HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 22, 2018) – Registration dates have been established for incoming kindergarten students to Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) for the 2018-2019 school year. Children who turn five years old on or before September 1, 2018, must be enrolled in kindergarten, according to the State of Maryland.
VEX Robotics Competition Saturday at South High
Hagerstown, MD (January 19, 2018) - Thirty-two teams from Washington County Public Schools will participate in the VEX Robotics Competition at South Hagerstown High School on Saturday, January 20, 2018. The event is sponsored by Volvo Hagerstown and features both middle and high school teams. The students will test their machines through qualifying rounds and skills challenges for a chance to secure a spot in the Maryland State Championships. Doors open at 8 a.m. with the first matches beginning at 9:45 a.m.
Boonsboro High's We the People Team Wins State Championship
HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 9, 2018) – The We the People team from Boonsboro High School earned the state championship on January 4, 2018, in competition with two schools from Baltimore and Charles counties. Boonsboro will participate in the national We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition in Leesburg, Virginia from April 27 – May 1, 2018.
BOE Approves Draft Budget; Public Budget Hearing Scheduled
