Boonsboro Wins District We the People Competition

Hagerstown, MD (November 13, 2018) - The team from Boonsboro High School won today's We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution district competition at the Center for Education Services. Student teams compete in a simulated congressional hearing format before panels of judges comprised of community representatives and staff members from Washington County Public Schools. Teams from South Hagerstown High School and Williamsport High School finished second and third, respectively. Boonsboro's team advances to the state competition in January.

Next Children In Need Clothing Drive Scheduled for WCPS

HAGERSTOWN, MD (November 2, 2018) – The second collection of gently used clothing and other items for Children In Need in the 2018-2019 school year is scheduled to begin Monday, November 5 and continue through Friday, November 16. Students, parents, staff and the community are encouraged to donate gently used clothing that Children In Need distributes to children eligible for the Free and Reduced Meals program. Toiletries, books and school supplies are also accepted. This is the 12th annual collection. The schools participating in the November 2018 collection are:

Student Teams Preparing for District We the People Competition

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 29, 2018) – Five high school teams from Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) will participate in the District We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Center for Education Services, 10435 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown. Participating schools are Boonsboro, North Hagerstown, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown and Williamsport high schools.

WCPS Part of Micah's Backpack Dedication Ceremony at M.C.I.

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 25, 2018) – A dedication ceremony was held today at the Maryland Correctional Institution (M.C.I.), Hagerstown, featuring representatives of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Washington County Public Schools (WCPS), Hagerstown Area Religious Council (HARC) and Micah’s Backpack. A special metal collection box was constructed by M.C.I. inmates to accommodate ongoing donations of food items to the Micah’s Backpack program.

National Merit Scholarship Commended Students in WCPS

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 4, 2018) – A number of students in Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) have been named Commended Students in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. The recognized WCPS students are among about 34,000 students nationwide who earned Commended Student status. They placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Pangborn Elementary Principal Earns National Mentoring Certification

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 1, 2018) - Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is proud to announce Eric Meredith, Principal at Pangborn Elementary School, has earned a National Mentoring Certificate from the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). The program aims to “utilize the skills, knowledge and dispositions of experienced principals to support the next generation of school leaders,” according to NAESP.

Fall and Winter Superintendent Listening Sessions Scheduled

HAGERSTOWN, MD (September 28, 2018) – The first of three “Listening Sessions” with Dr. Boyd Michael, superintendent of schools, will be presented by Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) on Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Clear Spring High School. The session provides an opportunity for parent and community engagement. Parents, students, WCPS staff and community members are welcome to attend the public sessions and are encouraged to come prepared with questions and ideas. Each session starts at 6:30 p.m.

42nd Annual Showcase of Marching Bands Postponed Until October 8 at South High

HAGERSTOWN, MD (October 2, 2018) – UPDATE: Because of impending inclement weather, Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) has postponed the 42nd   Annual Showcase of Marching Bands until Monday, October 8, 2018, at 7 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School. The Clear Spring High School “Blazer” Band will serve as the host band and will be joined by the marching bands from Boonsboro, North Hagerstown, Smithsburg, South Hagerstown and Williamsport high schools.
