Next Children In Need Clothing Drive Starts Monday, February 4

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 1, 2019) – The latest in this school year’s series of collections of gently used clothing and other items for Children In Need will begin on Monday, February 4 and continue through Friday, February 15. Students, parents, staff and the community are encouraged to donate gently used clothing that Children In Need distributes to children eligible for the Free and Reduced Meals program. Toiletries, books and school supplies are also accepted. This is the 12th annual collection. The schools participating in the February 2019 collection are:

Class of 2019 Graduation Schedule Announced

HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 28, 2019) – The schedule of graduation ceremonies for the Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) Class of 2019 has been finalized. Each of the graduations will be held in the evening except for Marshall Street School/Washington County Job Development Program, which will be held on Wednesday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Community College’s Kepler Theater. BOE Approves School Calendar for 2019-2020

HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 9, 2019) – The Washington County Board of Education (BOE) has approved a calendar for school year 2019-2020, which begins on Tuesday, September 3. The tentative last day of school for students is Monday, June 15, 2020, pending the number of days lost to inclement weather or for other reasons during the school year. Several possible make-up days are built into the calendar, including November 27, January 31, February 17, April 3 and April 13.

BOE Seeking Public Comment on Proposed Changes to its Policy on Advisory Committees and Exhibit on Calendar Advisory Committee

Hagerstown, MD (December 12, 2018) - The Washington County Board of Education (BOE), at its December 11, 2018 business meeting, approved the first reading of proposed changes to Policy BDF, entitled "Advisory Committees to the Board of Education," and Exhibit BDF-E(2), entitled, "Calendar Advisory Committee."

Washington County Public Schools' New School Report Card Released

HAGERSTOWN, MD (December 4, 2018) – The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) has posted new Maryland Report Cards containing performance data for Maryland’s public schools, including Washington County Public Schools (WCPS). The data reflecting WCPS performance in the new Report Cards shows that 14 schools earned the highest ranking of five stars and 21 schools earned four stars, or 87.5 percent earning a four or five-star ranking. That ranks WCPS seventh in Maryland for the percentage of schools performing at the two highest levels.

Make-Up Day Chosen for November School Closing; January 28 Changed to Full Day for Students; 2 1/2 Hour Early Dismissal on January 25

HAGERSTOWN, MD (December 3, 2018) – Washington County Public Schools announces that Monday, January 28, 2019 will be used as a make-up day for students. The day had originally been scheduled as a professional day for staff, when students would not have attended school, but the school closing due to snow on November 15 prompted the change in schedule. Because it is the end of the second marking period, the schedule for Friday, January 25 has been changed from a full day for students to a two-and-a-half hour early dismissal to allow teachers to work on finalizing grades.

Superintendent Listening Session at Boonsboro Middle on December 6

HAGERSTOWN, MD (November 29, 2018) – The next “Listening Session” with Dr. Boyd Michael, superintendent of schools, will be presented by Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Boonsboro Middle School. The session provides an opportunity for parent and community engagement. Parents, students, WCPS staff and community members are welcome to attend and are encouraged to present questions and ideas. The session starts at 6 p.m. with remarks by Dr. Michael, followed by a question and answer segment with Dr. Michael and staff.
