Flexible Spending Accounts
Washington County Public Schools offers employees the opportunity to contribute pretax dollars to a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) used to pay for qualifying expenses. Depending on the type of FSA, those expenses might include childcare or medical costs that are not covered by health, dental or vision insurance. For a complete explanation, including a list of what is covered, please click on ‘FSA Employee Guide’ on the right.
Historically, the Flexible Spending plan year was on a calendar year, January 1 – December 31. We are now moving to a plan year that is the same as our health insurance plan year, July 1 - June 30. To make this happen, we will offer a short plan year, from January 1 - June 30, 2020.
What does this mean to you? You must carefully consider when you will incur expenses.
- For the medical flexible spending plan, the maximum you can contribute is $1350. During the May open enrollment, you may elect up to an additional $1350.
- For the dependent flexible spending plan, per the IRS, the yearly amount you can elect is $5000. Carefully consider WHEN you will incur the expense to determine how much to elect for the period January 1, 2020 - June 30, 2020.
- 10-month employees will have 12 FSA payroll deductions for the short plan year and 12-month employees will have 13 FSA payroll deductions.
