Purpose

The Clear Spring Blazer Band plays for many community events.  The purpose of this class is to work towards both overall musical ensemble achievement and personal musical achievement, through activities and assignments designed towards but not limited to:   rhythm-reading, note-reading, major and minor keys, warm-ups, scales, chords, proper technique, sight-reading and musical styles.  Personal practice is very important for this class.

Music performance courses are unique because they also function as performance organizations.  This class is a co-curricular organization because activities happen both during and outside of the school day.  Students in this class must understand that each rehearsal and performance is an essential part of the class curriculum.  Each student is personally accountable but also responsible to the other students in the ensemble, so attendance to after-school activities is always expected.

Class Goal

The purpose of this class is to work towards both overall musical ensemble achievement and personal musical achievement.  Performance abilities as well as a basic understanding of theoretical and stylistic traits of music are each important gains to take from this class.  This year’s student leadership team has also adopted three core covenants for the ensemble: Dedication, Respect and Family.
