BISFA Arts Exploration Program Applications Being Accepted

Sixth and seventh grade students in Washington County who are interested in theater, visual arts, creative writing, dance, vocal music, and instrumental music are encouraged to apply for the Washington County Public Schools’ BISFA Arts Exploration program.  The program is open to public, parochial, and home-schooled students.  It takes place each Saturday at The Barbara Ingram School for the Arts from February 24-March 23, 2024.  Sessions are from 9:00 a.m.

Kimberly Rishell Named 2023 MCTM Outstanding Mathematics Educator

The Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) has recognized Williamsport Elementary School Fourth Grade Teacher Kimberly Rishell as the 2023 MCTM Outstanding Mathematics Educator in the Elementary Teacher category. Rishell, who was presented with the award at the MCTM Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet on October 18, was honored for her distinction in the classroom, her dedication to students, and her contributions to the greater mathematics education community.

WCPS Elementary Students Help Support “Books for Babies”

Baby Brantley Miller is getting an early start to learning about the world around him through reading. His parents, Brittany and Garrett Miller, love reading to Brantley and his big brother Bryson. Brittany is a High School Math Content Specialist with Washington County Public Schools. “Reading together, each night, is important to help develop our boys’ vocabulary and interest in reading. It’s one of our favorite parts of our evening routine,” says Brittany.

Clear Spring High School Earns National Recognition from Special Olympics

Clear Spring High School is being recognized as a Special Olympics National Banner Unified Champion School for its efforts to provide inclusive sports and activities for all students.  The recognition, which was only bestowed on 10 schools across Maryland this year, is a result of Clear Spring High School meeting national standards of excellence in the areas of inclusion, advocacy, and respect.  In recognition of the honor, the school will receive a banner to be hung on campus and be included on a list of schools f

WCPS Students Exceed State Proficiency Rates on 93% of MCAP Assessments

Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) students exceeded the state’s overall proficiency rates on 13 of the 14 (93 percent) Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) assessments administered during the 2022-2023 school year.  The achievement comes as the statewide results show notable improvements in both literacy and mathematics, with literacy results surpassing pre-pandemic performance.
