Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrollments Being Accepted for 2020-2021

HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 11, 2020) – Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is enrolling children for kindergarten and taking applications for pre-kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year. The first of a series of kindergarten registration dates is scheduled on Monday, March 16, 2020. Additional dates are April 21, May 13 and June 4. On those dates, from 8:30 a.m. – noon, staff members will be available at each Washington County elementary school to complete the registration process with parents and guardians of children who will be eligible for kindergarten next school year. In addition, an enrollment event will be held at the Center for Education Services, 10435 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown, on Monday, April 6 from 5 – 7 p.m. Children who turn five years old on or before September 1 must be enrolled in kindergarten, according to the State of Maryland. In addition to the scheduled registration dates, the parent/legal guardian may register at any time at the school in the district where he or she lives. It is recommended that contact be made with the school in advance to schedule a registration appointment.

The following documents are required when registering a child for kindergarten:

  • Birth certificate and photo ID of legal guardian
  • Immunization records
  • Health inventory (completed by the child’s doctor within a nine-month period before the child enters school or within a six-month period after entering school)
  • Proof of residency (mortgage/rental agreement, electric or water bill that is current within 90 days prior to registration). Telephone bills or driver’s licenses will not be accepted.
  • Custody documentation (if applicable)

To be eligible for pre-kindergarten, a child must be four years old on or before September 1 and the family must live in Washington County.
