Washington County Board of Education Seeks New Superintendent

The Washington County Board of Education is conducting an executive search process to hire a new superintendent of schools. The Board has contracted with McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development to recruit and identify the ideal candidate who will continue advancing the success and achievement of students in Washington County, Maryland.

The Board of Education takes seriously the duty of selecting a new superintendent. The superintendent is responsible for upholding the Board’s policies and the collective vision to support student achievement and success, manage fiscal resources, and oversee the daily operations of the school system. 

Additionally, the Board of Education will be seeking feedback from community stakeholders through the work of the consultants. This feedback, collected through surveys and community meetings, will be shared with the Board as well as the WCPS learning community. WCPS will be providing more information about these opportunities for public participation in the near future. 

The Board intends for the new superintendent to begin working in Washington County by July 1, 2022. 

Timeline

  • Closing date for applications: May 5, 2022 (11:30 p.m. central time)

  • School Board selects finalists to interview: Week of May 23, 2022

  • Finalists interviews with the School Board: Week of May 30, 2022

  • Selection of new Superintendent: End of May/first week of June 2022

  • Start date: July 1, 2022
