Step 4: How is a student identified as needing special education?

At the evaluation meeting the IEP team meets to:

  • review the results of assessments;
  • document the need for special education by identifying a special education disability
    • has a negative impact on your child's educational performance; and
    • impairs your child's ability to meet general educational objectives; and
  • identify individualized goals and objectives to meet your child's educational needs.
