About the library

The North Hagerstown High School Library provides an attractive, welcoming, intellectually challenging environment to serve students, faculty, staff, and visitors of North Hagerstown High School.

Use the link to the NHHS Library Portal to search our online catalog. Find what we have in our school library and also search the collections of every other public school library in the county. If you find a book at another school, it can usually be borrowed through interlibrary loan and will be delivered to you. See one of the librarians.

Use the link to the Washington County Free Library catalog to find books and other resources available from the public library. If you can't visit the library yourself to pick up what you've found, see one of the librarians.

Through the NHHS and WCPS Library Portals you'll have free access to all of the online subscription resources the county and state have paid for. You'll find links to WCPS databases and WCFL databases. These are the good ones! So good, you'll need a library card to use many of the WCFL resources and a username/password for home use of the WCPS resources. See one of the librarians.

Need help? See one of the librarians! There are no stupid questions. Our primary job is to help students and staff so do not hesitate to ask.

The school library media specialist's role is diverse:

  • Teacher
  • Instructional Partner
  • Information Specialist
  • Program Administrator
  • Technology Coordinator

Library Media Specialists collaborate with teachers, administrators, and others to prepare students for future success.  The library collection is selected to meet curricular as well as recreational demands. The WCPS Library Resources Portal is the place to begin finding and using resources provided by the Washington County Pubic Schools library media program. The library subscribes to seventeen online databases in order to provide expanded access to research materials.

Research shows that students who use their school library score higher on standardized tests and do better in school.
