Williamsport High's Jathan Mentzer Wins State Trig-Star Competition and Qualifies for Nationals

Hagerstown, MD (May 24, 2017) – Jathan Mentzer, a junior at Williamsport High School, earned the opportunity to compete in the National Trig-Star competition by placing first at the school, county and state levels. The Trig-Star Program is an annual mathematics competition and national test, promoting the study of trigonometry in high schools and acquainting high school math students with the practical application of trigonometry. Michael Boyce, chairman for the Appalachian Chapter and the Trig-Star Program for the Maryland Society of Surveyors, which sponsors Trig-Star at the state level, volunteers to work with math teachers in Washington County Public Schools, incorporating surveying and the application of trigonometry into math classes.
