Posted January 2, 2018

Hagerstown, MD (January 2, 2018) - Williamsport Elementary School has earned a 2017 Maryland Excellence in Gifted and Talented Education (EGATE) Schools award. The honor signifies that Williamsport Elementary presents a rigorous and high quality gifted and talented education program. Principal Dr. Jana Palmer and her staff completed an extensive application process that documents how the school’s gifted and talented program is aligned with the Maryland Criteria for Excellence: Gifted and Talented Education Program Guidelines and the Code of Maryland Regulations: Gifted and Talented Education. Williamsport is one of only seven schools in Maryland to earn EGATE designation.

As part of the honor, Williamsport Elementary will receive citations from the Governor and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and an EGATE school banner. The recognition reception for all honored schools will be held on February 21, 2018 at North County High School in Bel Air. In addition, Williamsport Elementary will be featured on the MSDE website and will host a celebration that includes state officials in the spring. Also in the spring, the school will participate in the 2018 EGATE Showcase and Networking Event.
