WCPS Seeking Members for Student Dress Code Workgroup

Posted February 3, 2022

Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is seeking students, staff, and parents to serve on the Student Dress Code Workgroup. This group of volunteers will make recommendations to the superintendent of schools regarding an administrative regulation that addresses student dress code guidelines.

The Board of Education adopted changes at its public business meeting on November 16, 2021 to Policy JFCA, entitled “Student Dress Code.”  The Superintendent is authorized to promulgate an administrative regulation to implement this policy.  As such, the superintendent is forming an advisory workgroup comprised of students, staff, and parents/legal guardians to assist with a review of the current regulation JFCA-R, which was last updated in 2013, in order to promulgate the administrative regulation for the revised policy.

Membership on the Student Dress Code Workgroup shall be limited to six (6) students: 1 senior and 2 juniors from different high schools, 2 middle/elementary students, and the student member of the Board; six (6) staff representatives: 2 teachers/counselors (one each from elementary and secondary levels), 2 administrators (one each serving elementary and secondary levels), and the executive directors of elementary and secondary education; and six (6) parents: representing a variety of levels and attendance zones.

Initial virtual meetings have been scheduled for the following dates:

  • March 9, 2022  |  4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • March 23, 2022  |  4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • March 30, 2022  |  4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Additional meetings may be necessary to develop recommendations for the administrative regulation at hand.

Members will be identified to ensure the workgroup meets the wide variety of levels and representation, and they will be notified by February 23, 2022. The workgroup will provide written recommendations to the superintendent on or before June 1, 2022.  The recommendations will minimally address each of the components in the current regulation JFCA-R.

Individuals interested in serving on the Student Dress Code Workgroup should complete the online form for consideration at: https://forms.gle/kF5vCEwUhGF89nr6A. Applications will be collected through February 16, 2022.
