Technology Progress Report: Synergy/ParentVUE/StudentVUE

Posted May 7, 2018

Hagerstown, MD (May 7, 2018) - Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) provided this update to parents of WCPS students today:

The Technology Department at Washington County Public Schools continues to make progress with bringing StudentVUE and ParentVUE back online within the Synergy Student System. In addition to the damage caused by the fire at the Center for Education Services, adequate backups of the system’s information were not properly maintained through a third-party vendor. As a result, we anticipate the system will not be available until next week.

Technology Department staff have been working through the weekend to restore and verify student information, attendance records and grades. We appreciate your patience, and we apologize for the inconvenience, as we work to ensure we are providing accurate, up-to-date information about your student in the system.

We will be working with teachers, school administrators, and faculty in the coming days to develop/re-generate information that was lost and cannot be restored. This includes all grades for the 4th marking period. We will offer several options to teachers so they can provide a fair assessment of your student's academic performance while also considering the remaining six weeks in the marking period to meet appropriate grading standards.

WCPS has been in the process of creating a full duplication of our system at the former Central Office building for several months, and it should be in place prior to the new school year. This implementation will help us avoid any long-term outage of the Synergy Student System in the future. Through this experience, changes and fixes will be made to improve upon this backup. For example, we have an on-premises and a cloud-based backup solution.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. We will continue to provide regular updates.
