Parents and Guardians Encouraged to Enroll Students Before the First Day of School

Enrolling early allows schools to make every preparation necessary before students start 

HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 28, 2017)The first day of the 2017-2018 school year is Tuesday, September 5 and Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is urging any parent or guardian who has not completed the enrollment process for a child, especially for new kindergarten students, to do so as quickly as possible. Staff members are available at each school to assist with every detail. To enroll a child, the following information must be provided:

  • Verification of identify (with photo ID)
  • Birth certificate
  • Verification of custody (if applicable)
  • Immunization records
  • Health inventory completed by the child’s doctors with a nine month period before the child enters school or within a six month period  after entering school  
  • Proof of residency (current property tax bill, rental bill, utility bill or mortgage statement, and must be current within last three months of registration; a driver’s license or telephone bill CANNOT be used)

Each child should have a physical before starting  school for the first time. In addition, all incoming kindergarten and seventh grade students must have a complete set of immunizations on record before they can enter school on the first day.
