Important: Update Student iPads

Posted January 28, 2021

Apple is reporting a critical security update that needs to be made to iPads. In order to maintain security features on your child's WCPS-issued iPad, it is important that families update the device's software today. This can be done in two ways:

  • Automatic update
  • Manual update

Read the details below to determine how you would like to update your child's iPad.

Automatic Update

WCPS is going to "push" an update to student iPads this evening that will automatically update the device's operating system.

In order for your student's iPad to be updated this way, you must have the iPad connected to a charger and plugged in to power with at least 50% battery life.

Manual Update

Below you will find step-by-step instructions to assist your child with checking for an update. The images include areas outlined in red and red arrows to assist you with navigating the iPad screens.

Before beginning the update, you must have the iPad:

  • plugged in and connected to power
  • charged with at least 50% battery life
  • connected to the internet

Depending on your internet connection, this update may take several minutes to an hour, or more.

1. Select "Settings" on the home screen.
