School Social Workers

School Social Workers are trained mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to a person's social, emotional and life adjustment to school and/or society. School Social Workers are the link between the home, school and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success.

WCPS employees three types of school social workers that work in varying capacities across different schools within the system. Below are the types of school social workers employed by WCPS.

Counseling Office Social Workers

Provide casework services for students and families to assist in resolving any social emotional issues that may impede their educational progress

Special Education Summit Social Workers

Provide related services in the form of individual and/or group counseling and crisis intervention/support to students in regional therapeutic programs

Itinerant Social Workers

Provide related services in the form of individual and/or group counseling to students in schools throughout WCPS
