HAGERSTOWN, MD (June 12, 2015) – Washington County Public Schools will implement its summer schedule for schools and offices on Monday, June 15, 2015. A four-day work week will be in effect through August 7. Schools and offices will be open extended hours Monday through Thursday and closed each Friday during that time. The Center for Education Services, 10435 Downsville Pike, will be open to the public from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Hours at individual schools will vary.
Hagerstown, MD (June 9, 2015) - Washington County Public Schools is offering meals to children without charge as part of the 2015 Summer Food Service Program. Acceptance and participation requirements for the program and all activities are the same for all regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. A partnership between Washington County Government and Washington County Public Schools has resulted in an interactive online tool that can be used to connect residential addresses with the school district in which the residences are located. The map can be found at http://washcogis2.washco-md.net/js/SchoolLocator/. Visitors can enter an address and determine the elementary, middle and high school district for that address.
A 15 person commitee has met a number of times since November 2014 to produce a final list of names for the "West City" elementary school opening in 2016-17
The health and safety of students in Washington County Public Schools is always top priority. WCPS continues to work with Meritus School Health Program and the Washington County Health Department in an ongoing effort to keep parents, students and the community informed. WCPS also takes very seriously the cleanliness and safety of its school buildings. To that end, staff is vigilant in disinfecting classrooms, bathrooms and common areas. Even without health issues arising in schools, WCPS remains committed to daily monitoring of any health and safety risks.
Substitute bus drivers are paid $17 an hour. It is preferred if a job candidate has a CDL, but WCPS will train for CDL written and skills tests. Applicants must have a good driving record. Substitute bus attendants make $12 per hour and subsitute crossing guards earn $9.65 an hour.
