Board of Education Candidate Orientation

HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 2, 2016) – Candidates for the Washington County Board of Education have the opportunity to participate in an orientation session on Thursday, March 17, 2016 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Center for Education Services, 10435 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown. The program will include impartial information regarding school governance, board operations and school programs delivered by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Clayton Wilcox and several key members of the Washington County Public Schools administration. 

Schedule of WCPS Graduation Ceremonies

HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 1, 2016) – All but one graduation ceremony for the Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) Class of 2016 will be held in the evening this spring. The exception is Marshall Street School/Washington County Job Development Program, where graduation will be held on Thursday, May 26 at 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Community College’s Kepler Theater. Maple Sugar Festival on March 5 at Claud E. Kitchens Outdoor

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 25, 2016) – The annual Maple Sugar Festival at Claud E. Kitchens Outdoor School at Fairview will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day’s events include a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Clear Spring FFA/FFA Alumni from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Fairview dining room and the Tree Tapper 5K race at 8:30 a.m (THE 5K RACE HAS BEEN CANCELED BECAUSE OF COURSE CONDITIONS). 20th Annual Academic Team Championship on February 27 at North High

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 24, 2016) – Teams of students from each high school will compete in the 20th Annual Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) Academic Team Championship on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 9 a.m. at North Hagerstown High School. This year’s team rosters include a record number of participating students. The competition begins with an uncontested round of questions for each team, followed by round robin, head-to-head competition in which each team faces every other team.

WCPS Chapters to Celebrate National FFA Week

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 19, 2016) – Students in Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapters in Washington County Public Schools will celebrate National FFA Week from February 21 – 27. FFA is the largest high school youth organization in the world and a very active program in Washington County. Each school with an FFA program has planned Spirit Week activities, which will include a teacher appreciation breakfast.

Parent University at South High on February 23

Hagerstown, MD (February 18, 2016) - Parents are invited to Washington County Public Schools’ first Parent University on Tuesday, February 23 at 6 p.m. at South Hagerstown High School. The event will feature a presentation about the school system’s new digital learning plan. After an opening presentation, those attending will be able to visit rooms set up with elementary, middle and high school teachers who will be able to discuss the digital learning plan and answer questions from parents.

WCPS Continues Clothing Drive for Children In Need

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 4, 2016) – The latest clothing drive for Children In Need will be conducted by Washington County Public Schools  from February 8 – 19, 2016. Students, parents, staff and the community are encouraged to donate gently used clothing that Children In Need distributes to children eligible for the Free and Reduced Meals program. Toiletries, books and school supplies are also accepted. The schools participating in the February 2016 collection are:

WCPS Celebrating February 1 - 5 as National School Counseling Week

HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 29, 2016) – Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is celebrating National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, from February 1 – 5, 2016. The special week spotlights the unique and valuable contributions that school counselors make to the academic achievement and personal growth of students. A comprehensive school counseling program is an integral part of the total educational program.
