Williamsport High School Navy Enlistee Scores High on Defense Language Test

Posted May 3, 2019

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 3, 2019) – Williamsport High School senior Michael Booker, who has enlisted in the U.S. Navy, has earned the highest qualification possible because of his score on the Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB). The DLAB measures an individual’s ability to learn a foreign language and decode messages. Mr. Booker’s score was 110, which qualified him for Level IV Languages. He is now qualified to learn any language the Navy needs, including German, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Korean and Pashto. Booker will begin his training as a military linguist or cryptologic language analyst this summer.

His German teacher, Laura Deyerberg, said only three percent of Navy recruits score high enough to pass. “Michael is a tremendous student and his accomplishment is not surprising. I am proud of him for enlisting to help serve and protect our country.”
