WCPS Celebrating February 1 - 5 as National School Counseling Week

Posted January 29, 2016

HAGERSTOWN, MD (January 29, 2016) – Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is celebrating National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, from February 1 – 5, 2016. The special week spotlights the unique and valuable contributions that school counselors make to the academic achievement and personal growth of students. A comprehensive school counseling program is an integral part of the total educational program.

Robin Handler, WCPS supervisor of school counseling, says a school counselor provides a variety of resources for students and families. “Counselors work with students and their parents in a partnership designed to help students strengthen academic performance based on abilities, interests and talents. They assist in planning for a positive future in college and careers.” She added, “Counselors can have a deep and lasting impact on students.”

WCPS has a staff of 60 school counselors and counseling social workers.
