Tech High Students Bring Medals Home from State SkillsUSA Competition

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 1, 2017) – Students from Washington County Technical High School performed well at this past weekend’s Maryland State SkillsUSA Championships at locations in the Baltimore area. Of the 68 Tech High students who competed, 28 earned gold, silver or bronze medals. The gold medal winners qualify to participate in the National SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky from June 19 – 24.  Here is the list of medal winners:

  • Career Pathways Showcase (Human Services Cluster): Team of Han Tran, Kaya Jackson, Brandon Hammett
  • 3D Visualization and Animation: Team of Ryan Freels, Matthew Schmidl


  • Prepared Speech: Zoe Boyer
  • Customer Service: Adrianna Triesh
  • Restaurant Services: Jenna Segal


  • Esthetics: Jasmine Day w/model Kayla Stotelmyer
  • Advertising Design: Rebekah Butler
  • TV Video Production: Team of Caitlynne Johnson, Nell Humphreys
  • Automotive Refinishing Technology: Lucas Martz
  • Firefighting: Kaylah Smothers
  • Career Pathways Showcase (Health Services Cluster): Team of Deborah Aquino, Corveyon King, Keri Fell
  • Quiz Bowl: Team of Grace Jones, Hunter Horst, Jacob Carder, Jacob Cowan, Gabriella Schroeder

Marjorie Kellman was also recognized as Maryland’s Region 6 Advisor of the Year for SkillsUSA.
