Tech High Hosts Region SkillsUSA Competition; Tech Students Earn Trip to States

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 5, 2018) – Washington County Technical High School hosted the Maryland SkillsUSA Region 6 (Western Maryland) Championships on Saturday, February 3, 2018. A total of 179 students took part in the competition in 20 skill areas. Students who finished in the top three places of each competition earned a chance to compete in the Maryland SkillsUSA State Championships in April. First place winners in the state competition earn a trip to nationals in Louisville in June. The following Tech High students earned first place awards in the region competition:

  • Ryan Robertson (Electrical Construction Wiring)
  • Team of Nell Humphries and Caitlynne Johnson TV (Video) Production
  • Nathan Strassberger (Carpentry)
  • Morgan “JJ” Thompson (Basic Health Care Skills)
  • Randee Deener (Culinary Arts)
  • Megan Mentzer (Food and Beverage Service)
  • Team of Jessica Monn, Karissa Schisler and Breanna Hose (Crime Scene Investigation)

The following students earned second place awards:

  • Kevin Watkins (Automotive Service Technology)
  • Team of Taylor Rudisill, Autumn Stone and Sara Sutton (Crime Scene Investigation)
  • Isabella Leonard (Food and Beverage Service)
  • Jessica Claman and her model, Lyndi Rodeheaver (Esthetics)
  • Alexis Kingsbury (Advertising Design)
  • Brianna Ott (Cosmetology)

The following students earned third place awards:

  • Team of Jodi Bentz, Jordan Kimble and Alisha Smith (Crime Scene Investigation)
  • Amanda Keller (Culinary Arts)
  • Daniel Rodriguez (Criminal Justice)
