Wednesday, March 13, 2019 – A-Day

Upcoming SGA meeting:  Our next SGA meeting will be held tomorrow from 12:15 until 1:00pm.  Topics will include fundraising, senior graduation and county SGA meetings. The yearbook will be there to take a group SGA picture for the yearbook.  All SGA officers and members should do their best to attend.

The Student Government Association group will have their picture taken tomorrow at 12:20 PM in the AV Center.

SGA Fundraiser:  Save this date – March 26 and plan to eat at Chipotle with Tech High. Make dinner a selfless act by joining us for a fundraiser to support WCTHS SGA and Skills USA.  Come in to the Chipotle at 18003 Garland Groh Blvd. in Hagerstown on Tuesday, March 26th between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.  33% of the proceeds will be donated to WCTHS SGA and Skills USA.

Scholarships

Applications for the 2019 Frederic H. Kass III, M.D. Endowed Scholarship Fund are now available.  Dr. Kass helped to establish Hospice of Washington County, Inc. (HWC) which began in 1980. This scholarship is designed to support students in Washington County pursuing a career in the healthcare field. In 2019, three scholarships for $2,000 will be awarded. Individuals who apply must be an employee of HWC, or an immediate family member of an HWC employee who is a current student or accepted to an accredited college majoring in a healthcare field, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a resident of Washington County, Maryland who is a graduating high school senior and is accepted to an accredited college majoring in a healthcare field with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or a resident of Washington County, Maryland, who is a current student at an accredited college majoring in a healthcare field with a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Applications for the scholarships must be completed by April 1, 2019, and the scholarships will be awarded June 7, 2019. Individuals who are interested in applying for the scholarship can obtain an application online at http://hospiceofwc.org/frederic-h-kass-iii-md-endowed-scholarship-fund or can call HWC’s Senior Director of Development and Public Relations, Karen Giffin, at 301-791-6360 or email kmgiffin@hospiceofwc.org. A scholarship brochure will be e-mailed to you with the guidelines. Applications that do not include all the required information will not be considered.

By following this link, students will be directed to a website with all the available scholarships that are currently open. Scholarships with online applications are highlighted in blue. Students just need to click the Scholarship title, the font is blue, and that will take them to the application. Each application has its own form. Under every scholarship is a short description, and you can also read the description of the scholarship if you click on it.  It is important to read the descriptions because many of our scholarships are specific to a certain high school. Hagerstown Community College is hosting an Open House on Saturday, March 23rd from 10:00am-12:00pm in the Student Center.  All students are welcome to attend.

ATTENTION SENIORS!!

  • Have you received notification from the State of Maryland regarding State MONEY POSSIBILITIES? GRANTS are FREE MONEY!! You need to create a MDCAPS account/student login:  https://mdcaps.mhec.state.md.us.  Need help, see your counseling center.
  • The Counseling Center needs copies of all college acceptance letters and all scholarship/financial aid that you are offered.  Stop by to see Mrs. Kreykenbohm-Barnhart if you have any questions.  We will be happy to make those copies for you.

SSL Opportunities

“WCTHS students must complete their SSL hours by April 4, 2019 in order to attend the May 2019 Prom” as stated in the WCTHS 2018-2019 Student/Parent Handbook.

HCC Flower & Garden Show:  Student volunteers needed to help set-up for the event at Hagerstown Community College ARCC building on Friday, March 15th (anytime between 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM), and tear-down on Sunday, March 17th from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Interested students must email Lisa Stewart in advance at lsstewart@hagerstowncc.edu

St. Patrick’s Day Run Fest:  Saturday, March 16th from 9:30 AM-12:30 PM.  Around 40 student volunteers needed to help direct runners and assist at the Finish Line.  Bring a fold-up chair, music and wear your St. Patrick’s Day colors!  Run begins and finishes in Downtown Hagerstown and will go through areas like, the City Park, Marty Snook Park and Oak Ridge Apartments.  Sign up today by contacting Vivienne 301-733-9234 @the Community Free Clinic or Rob Holsinger 240-313-2812 @WC Rec. Department by Monday, March 11th!!  Flyers available on the WCTHS’ SSL bulletin board.

The Washington County Volunteer Expo @ Robinwood: April 10th (Wednesday) 3pm-7pm. Many different opportunities to explore the various nonprofits and volunteer based agencies here in Washington County. http://www.unitedwaywashcounty.org/2019-washington-county-volunteer-expo  https://www.facebook.com/events/404327300339395/.  There are 40+ vendors signed up to display and there will also be seminar/workshops going on as well as a food drive. Help is needed with registration & assisting vendors to their spot. Help is needed to facilitate with the workshops and collecting/organizing the food/item donations. 10-15 students will be accepted to assist.

The Robert Johnson Community Center on W. North Avenue is looking for high school students to assist in their afterschool program.  The program runs Monday-Friday from 2:30-6:30 PM.  Interested students should call 301-790-0203 and speak to Tisha Crudup, the Volunteer Coordinator, to sign up.  One day notice is a must!!

The Washington County Historical Society - (located at 135 W. Washington St. Hagerstown) is looking for students to assist in a variety of opportunities.  From weekend painting and garden work to working in their library, archives or assisting during Saturday craft sessions.  All activities are on site at the Miller House and interested students should contact Anna Cueto at curator@washcohistory.org or 301-797-8782.

Racine MultiSports - is hosting the Hagerstown Duathlon on Saturday, April 20th to help support Cedar Ridge Children’s Home.
