All are welcome to attend and be part of this hard working group. At this first meeting we will start the first fundraiser of the year, plus begin brainstorming ideas for themes. The Washington County Historical Trust has partnered with the City of Hagerstown to restore the 1800 stone house in Kiwanis Park. The Saylor House, as it is known, is a fine example of the stone house construction in Washington County around 1800. The Trust is committed to training volunteers to help with the simpler tasks in the restoration process and to providing support for the contractors who will do the more complicated and time sensitive restoration. The preservation trades and historic building practices is a great field for our Washington County youth interested in the building trades to explore. The Trust is launching its first 2-day historic building trades workshop on lime mortar re-pointing. The workshop will address why it is so critical to use the proper mortar to avoid damaging the stone and brickwork in these buildings. The workshops is primarily hands on analyzing mortar, raking out joints, re-pointing and finish work. Interested students should register through the City Parks & Recreation Department, https://www.hagerstownmd.org/kiwanispark. The workshop is open to all county residents. There is a $50 material fee. Students who are unable to pay the fee should contact Ann Aldrich at 301-302-7223 for financial assistance.
Attention Class of 2019: If you did not receive an order form for Senior Class t-shirts, hoodies and long sleeve tie-dyed shirts, additional forms are available in the front office and outside of Mrs. Larrick's classroom. All orders and payment will be due by Sept. 28th.
