Smithsburg Graduates Class of 2020

Posted June 15, 2020

(June 15, 2020) - Morning sun brightened the day for members of Smithsburg High School's Class of 2020, school staff and family and friends who attended today's graduation ceremony at Carroll Reid Field. Because of the easing of COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings, Smithsburg High was able to coordinate an outdoor program that maintained health and safety precautions for the graduating students and those in attendance. Students, staff and invited guests were required to wear face coverings and social distances were marked off for graduates and the family members and friends who comprised the audience.

Principal Gary Willow opened the program with a greeting and expression of appreciation for everyone's patience, support and cooperation during the time between mid-March and the end of the school year, when school buildings were closed and all students finished the school year by distance learning. Smithsburg's Class of 2020 totals 168 members, including students from Washington County Technical High whose home school is Smithsburg. Tech High students had an opportunity to attend that school's graduation later in the morning.
