SkillsUSA Students Do Well at Regional Championships

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 7, 2017) – Students from Washington County Technical High School performed well at the Western Region SkillsUSA Championships in Frederick on Saturday, February 4, 2017. Of 53 Tech High students who competed, 20 earned medals at the competition and eligibility to compete at the Maryland State SkillsUSA Championships in April. They will be joined by a number of Tech High students who already qualified for the state competition because no other schools had students in several specific technical skill areas. The medal winners from the Western Region Championships in Frederick:

    • Matt Van Camp (Electrical Construction Wiring)
    • Kaylee Thompson (Esthetics) (with model Stephanie Leisinger)
    • Cheyenne Betson (First Aid CPR)
    • Megan Repass (Nail Care) (with model Keylin Colindres)
  • Third Place
    • Victoria Demar (Cosmetology)
    • Team of Katie Compton, Janice Boyce, Michael Wilcox (Crime Scene Investigation)
    • Kaitlyn Sechrist (Esthetics) (with model Rosemary Delgado)
    • Glenda Castillo (Nail Care) (with model Kimberly Rodriquez)
    • Team of Caitlynne Johnson, Neil Humphries (TV/Video Production)

Students who finish in first place in the state competition advance to the national championships in June.
