Pre-K and Kindergarten Enrollment for 2024-2025 School Year Kicks Off

Posted March 15, 2024

Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is opening Pre-K and kindergarten enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year. According to the State of Maryland, children who turn five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2024, must be enrolled in kindergarten for the upcoming school year. Pre-K continues to be optional for four-year-olds, but WCPS has made a universal Pre-K program available to the community at no cost.

The following documents are required when registering a child for Pre-K and kindergarten.

  • A photo ID of the parent/legal guardian enrolling the child
  • The child’s birth certificate
  • Immunization records
  • Health inventory (completed by the child’s doctor within nine months prior to entering school or within six months after entering school)
  • Proof of residency (mortgage/rental agreement, electric or water bill that is current within 90 days prior to registration. Telephone bills and/or driver’s licenses are not acceptable)
  • Custody documents (if applicable)

Once all of the above documents have been gathered, the child’s parent/legal guardian should call the school the child will attend and make an appointment to complete enrollment.

If a child attended Pre-K in Washington County, their parent/legal guardian must still enroll them in kindergarten and call to schedule an enrollment appointment at the school the child will attend for kindergarten.

Additional information about Pre-K and Kindergarten is available on the WCPS Early Learning website.
