Notice Reminder: BOE to Vote on May 21 on Proposed Changes to Sharpsburg Elementary Attendance Zone

Posted May 20, 2019

Hagerstown, MD (May 20, 2019) - The Washington County Board of Education (BOE) is scheduled to vote on a set of recommendations for the realignment of the Sharpsburg Elementary attendance zone during the business meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Center for Education Services (CES) at 10435 Downsville Pike, Hagerstown.

The vote follows a public hearing on April 16 at Boonsboro Middle School and a period of public comment. The recommendations are the result of a months-long consideration and analysis process by the Facilities and Enrollment Advisory Committee (FEAC), which was charged by the BOE to develop a new attendance zone for the anticipated opening of the new Sharpsburg Elementary School. These recommendations also address long-term enrollment relief at Boonsboro Elementary School and other adjacent schools as needed. Any approved changes will take effect at the start of the 2020/2021 school year when the new Sharpsburg Elementary School opens.

The full report outlining the attendance zone realignment recommendations is available on the WCPS website at www.wcpsmd.com and can be accessed at each school referenced in the recommendations: Sharpsburg, Boonsboro and Pleasant Valley elementary schools and the CES. A list of potentially impacted addresses accompanies the report at each school, the CES and is available online. Information about the recommendations can also be obtained by contacting the Public Information Office at 301.766.2809.

The BOE business meetings are open to the public and are broadcast live on Channel 99 for Antietam Broadband subscribers. Meetings are also streamed live on the WCPS Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wcpsmd.
