Essays Will Earn High School Students an Invitation to Student Government Day

HAGERSTOWN, MD (August 27, 2019) – High school students in Washington County are encouraged to complete a form and write a brief essay in order to earn an invitation to Washington County’s Student Government Day on October 22, 2019. Invited students will learn about county government and how youth can get involved in government and initiatives. County staff will also discuss internship program opportunities for the students and provide more information about specific jobs in county government. Activities are scheduled from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and include lunch with the Washington County Commissioners.

Along with contact information and the name of his or her school and social studies teacher, interested students must write an essay of between 100 and 150 words on why they want to learn more about the workings of local government and the service it provides. Essays must be submitted to a student’s social studies teacher by September 30, 2019. Only winning students will be notified and must provide their own transportation on October 22.
