Posted May 2, 2017

Hagerstown, MD (May 2, 2017) - The Middle School Mathematics Digital Resource and Online Textbook Adoption Teacher Selection Committee of Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) is recommending the purchase of Discovery Education’s “Math Techbook” to support the WCPS middle school mathematics program, including grades 6-8 and Algebra I. The adoption includes a six-year digital license for 5,120 students at a total cost of $252,510. All of the resources and licenses for teachers are free with purchase of the student licenses. Professional development is also included free with this county-wide adoption.

Math Techbook is an innovative digital resource that engages students with real-world problems worth solving. Using a balanced approach to instruction, Math Techbook facilitates in-depth conceptual understanding, procedural skill and fluency and application. Incorporating the eight mathematical process expectations, and aligned to Common Core State Standards, math Techbook provides real-time data to support differentiation and supports students at varying levels of mastery.

The Discovery Education Math Techbook will be available for review during the month of May on the WCPS website. The Board of Education Curriculum & Instruction committee will learn more about Discovery Education’s Math Techbook during a presentation at its May meeting. The purchase of this resource will be part of the first June Board meeting as a consent agenda item.
