Athletic Complex Renovations

Posted February 4, 2019

Good morning Smithsburg Community,

Smithsburg High School, The Athletic Boosters Club, and Washington County Board of Education are entering a public-private partnership to address the needs of our athletic complex. The first phase of renovations will include the construction of two team rooms, a new concession stand, a trainer/referee locker room and increased storage space. The upgrade is needed to address safety concerns and ensure that our athletes have facilities comparable to other districts. We have created a site where parents, staff, and community members may go to get additional information and updates throughout the process.  The site is https://sites.google.com/wcps.k12.md.us/smithsburg-capital-campaign/home.  Our Boosters are now taking donations to help support this project.  You can donate by accessing the website. Please feel free to share this site with other community members and alumni.

In addition to the project above we have been working on other site improvements. Below are some of the improvements we have completed or are planning to complete.

Completed

Permanent softball fence

New wall mats for Gym

New sound system for stadium & gym

In Progress

New sod & two new drains for the baseball infield.

New clay pitcher’s mound and batter’s boxes for baseball and softball fields.

Spring/Summer 2019

New bridge to replace bridge that connects practice fields and stadium parking

Additional drains in baseball outfield

When Smithsburg staff, community, boosters, and alumni all work together anything is possible.  I am very proud of what we have accomplished this year addressing the needs of our complex and I look forward to what we will accomplish together in the future.

Thank you
